On Friday afternoon, after another sensational explore of the maze of paths on Los Realejos’ captivating Rambla del Castro (one of the most beautiful and fascinating sections of Tenerife’s coastline) with the clock heading towards 3pm and no lunch inside our bellies, we decided a quick junk food hit was in order.
As we were due to do the weekly shop at Al Campo in La Villa shopping centre in La Orotava, it gave us an excuse to visit our favourite burger joint in Tenerife, Cervecería La Oficina.
There are a few bar/cafés in La Villa but we’re nearly always drawn to La Oficina for one reason; they serve sensational burgers.
La Oficina is a cosy little Spanish styled cervecería with chunky tables and chairs, a long narrow bar and wine barrel tables if all you fancy is a drink. On a weekend evening the only space available is usually in the dark depths at the end of the bar where the vista is of the chef flame-grilling burgers. The rest of the time, the tables outside of La Oficina are top drawer people-watching spots.
There are a number of items on the menu I want to tuck into at La Oficina. Every time we see someone ordering the puntas de solomillo we vow that next visit we’re going to try this drool-inducing mountain of herby chunks of steak mixed with a mountain of fried, chipped potatoes.
However, we never seem to be able to get past the hamburguesa con queso.
La Oficina’s burgers are the best beefburgers I’ve tried on Tenerife to date and have completely spoiled me. Every time I try a burger elsewhere I automatically compare it to La Oficina’s and it is always found wanting. Even a €10 burger in Playa de las Américas seemed seriously second rate by comparison. Actually that one was bloody awful and I was irked at paying over the odds for such mediocre fare.
You can tell a mile off when you’re getting the real deal rather than something flat and lacking in personality that has just been defrosted. La Oficina’s burgers are hamburguesas caseras (home made) and look it. La Oficina’s burgers are chunky, beefy and very, very tasty. They are the Doc Martins of burgerville. A slice of melted cheese on top and an accompaniment of a plate of papas fritas and a couple of beers finish them off perfectly.
Junk food it might be, but this is quality junk food. These are burgers of such satisfying substance that one would even satisfy Desperate Dan.
And the cost of this super burger? €2.70. It is a steal.
La Oficina’s burgers are addictively good. But be warned, they will ruin just about every burger you try on Tenerife afterwards.
Next time we visit though I’m going to try those irresistible looking puntas de solomillo… honest.
La Oficina Update September 2013: We finally managed to get to the new La Oficina (although by this time it’s not so new) at El Sauzal and can report back that the restaurant is just as cosy and the burgers, if anything, seem slightly bigger. They remain, by a long mile, the best we’ve tasted on Tenerife. Still haven’t tried those puntas de solomillo though.

Podras seguir disfrutando de Hamburguesas caseras al 100×100, las puntas de solomillo que estan riquisimas te recomiendo tambien la ensalada de tomates para acompañarlas.

Todas las otras hamburguesas que hemos comido en Tenerife no son tan buenas como la Oficina.
