This is one of those little things that always makes me smile whenever I see it. You tend to find it in the more traditional towns around Tenerife. The historic doors of La Orotava are particularly prone to this but you see it all over the place.
It’s the daily bread delivery. A bag bulging with baguettes is tied around the handle of the door and left. There’s no worry that anyone is going to make off with them. Even the birds seem to respect the ownership of these bags; I’ve yet to see one pecking away at the bag even though I’ve seen times where the bread is left all morning until the owner returns home from work for lunch.
It reminds me of the days in Britain when milk deliveries were common. The real Tenerife is still like that in many ways – old fashioned and with no worries of someone nicking your daily bread.
